RECESS MONKEY’S
‘THE FINAL FUNKTIER’ CD RELEASE SHOWS!

FOUR SHOWS IN VIRGINIA & MARYLAND – JULY 10 – 13

“2009 in Review: These kids’ songs are … awesome! … There are bands you can’t go wrong with, and this is one of them.” – USA Today

“RECESS MONKEY: If Seattle is the new bastion of kindie rockers, then the trio of elementary school teachers — Jack Forman, Daron Henry and Drew Holloway — are the city’s breakout stars.” – Time Magazine

“Dan Zanes may be the godfather; They Might Be Giants, the legitimizer; and Laurie Berkner, Ralph Covert, and Justin Roberts the genre’s superstars.
But Recess Monkey is the heart of kids’ music today.” – Stefan Shepherd, Zooglobble

The critically acclaimed, award-winning trio of Seattle schoolteachers, Recess Monkey, will bring their special brand of “undeniably hip, yet also kid-accessible” music and humor to four Virginia and Maryland shows between July 10 and 13 celebrating the release of their sixth CD, The Final Funktier. Performances will take place at Jammin’ Java in Vienna, VA; Gaithersburg’s Summer Safari at Kentlands Market Square in Gaithersburg, MD; and Great Kids Village in Silver Spring, MD and Columbia, MD. (Details below.)

The Final Funktier presents Recess Monkey in outer space, taking listeners on a stratospheric dance party that occasionally touches down on solid ground with moon boots, jet packs, sunglasses, satellites, and booster seats in hand!

Recess Monkey’s live shows are Beatles-influenced sing-alongs about friends, animals and SL-DOUBLE-E-P-OVERS. The Virginia and Maryland performances will be foot-stomping, hand-clapping, chicken-dancing romps through old favorites along with high-energy funk and new wave grooves from The Final Funktier, including “Booster Seat,” which compares a booster seat to a booster rocket, a low-gravity, high-bounce dance song called “Moon Boots,” and even a tune about a ukulele-playing alien called ‘Ukulalien.’ Kids and their parental units will zoom around the room with the high-energy “Jet Pack,” join the Monkey Bar conga line (located everywhere), take a soapy ride at the Bubble Factory, and give that loose tooth an extra jiggle with Dr. Wiggle.

Giving a wacky, fantastical edge to the “everyday lives of kids,” Recess Monkey weaves puns, jokes stories, and shenanigans into its songs. No play on words is too much of a stretch, and no rhyme schemes are out of bounds for the group’s genre-bending set of catchy, singable and dance-able ditties that NPR described as “inventive, brilliant, multilayered” and Cookie magazine dubbed “fast paced and goofy.” Audiences call it “a great way to spend an hour rocking out!”
