Guests gathered together on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in The Plains, Va. to watch polo and to raise money for Capital Hospice’s new establishment, The Adler Center For Caring. Women made statements with outrageous hats while men sported seersucker suits and Vineyard Vines accessories. While everyone sipped mojitos and mint juleps provided by Makers Mark and ate lunch catered by Outback Steakhouse, renowned celebrities joined together for a game of polo. Players included Salvatore Ferragamo, polo player and face of Ralph Lauren Ignacio “Nacho” Figueras, host of America’s Most Wanted John Walsh,  as well as Juan Salinas-Bentley, and Ashley Van Metre. During half-time women went out onto the field to do the traditional champagne and ice cream divot stomp.

Washington Life got an exclusive interview with Carol Kennedy, director of corporate and community support for Capital Hospice, who was a huge part of putting the 4th annual polo cup together. “The main purpose of this event is to raise money for the Adler building; it is our main priority,” she said. The Adler Center will provide hospice care to residents who cannot receive local impatient care. “The Van Metre family sponsored this event in support of Beau Van Metre’s father, Al, who was a advocate for Capital Hospice,” said Kennedy. Chris Ahn, vice president of the Ezra Company, is an advocate for this cause and a sponsor for the polo cup, “it’s great to see such deep involvement from the local business community in supporting Capital Hospice’s efforts. In light of the rough economic climate, non-profits depend on our support more than ever. For an organization that makes it a principle to never turn anyone in need away regardless of their ability to pay, I feel it necessary to support Capital Hospice and their vital mission, in any way we can,” he said.

After the polo match ended, prizes were raffled off, including two polo mallets signed by Nacho Figueras, a custom chapeau from the Hattery, and a Salvatore Ferragamo handbag.
