Holiday Happenings: Keegan’s Greetings

‘An Irish Carol’ production and concert will be hosted on December 22.

Just in time for the holidays, Dupont’s will run its production of An Irish Carol by company member Matthew Keenan this weekend. A tradition and an homage to Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, the comedic play follows pub owner David as he faces his past, present, and future on Christmas Eve.

The play’s early show at 7:00 p.m. will be followed by a Harry Bells concert, encompassing a “Keegan’s Greetings” event for the holidays. The Bells’ Latin, calypso and fusion-style arrangements have made the -based calypso band’s sets another beloved Keegan tradition. “We play songs written or performed by Harry Belafonte, and this time of year we also play arrangements of holiday classics,” says Matt Rippetoe, the eight-member band’s baritone saxophonist.

The atmosphere will be decidedly relaxed as The Bells return for their fourth year performing at the Theatre, and reunite with original members. “We always look forward to this show because it’s such a great hang,” says Rippetoe. “Our friends at Keegan are always very welcoming and generous, and it’s such a loose, friendly environment.”
Tickets for December 22’s An Irish Carol and the Harry Bells concert ($70), or the concert alone ($20), are available online at keegantheatre.com. Tickets for the play on other dates ($50) are also available. An Irish Carol will run until December 31.
