David and Janet Bruce hosted a reception following the openingof artist Carlotta Hester’s exhibition of paintings and sculpturesat the Govinda Gallery on April 6th. The exhibition, which ranthrough May 5th, explored the experience of womanhood andits underlying themes of sensuality, mystery and metamorphosis.Most of the sculptures consisted of hand-made light boxeswith figurative images, usually reliefs of women realized fromimages on postcards or photos of the artist’s paintings, appearingon the box doors. Ms. Hester is an art teacher at theMaret School and maintains a studio in D.C.
