| “The Road Not Taken” Three-minute readings that explored themes from "a writer's road not taken" by author Scott Spencer -aboutwriting and rewriting entitled "Endless Love," -to a world that sees too much war -"October Suites," byMaxine Clair -and other lighthearted accounts by 14 nationally-renowned writers were part of this year's galacelebration for the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction. A delectable three-course dinner by Design Cuisine of Asianrockfish salad, roasted quail, and cappuccino bombe held in the Great Hall followed the readings. Literary-mindedguests at the Oct. 30 event included Sens. Thad Cochran and Patrick J. Leahy (accompanied by his wife Marcelle),George and Liz Stevens, National Endowment for the Humanities Chairman Bruce Cole, Hodding Carter III,Ann Jordan, Polly Kraft, Marie Ridder, and artists Di and Lou Stovall and Bill Dunlap.
