Arnold Schwarzenegger was not among the 900 guests who attended
the 15th Annual Best Buddies Ball at the Shriver Residence in Potomac.
He obviously had other things to do the weekend before his election as
govenor of California but other members of the Shriver clan were there.
His brother-in-law and Best Buddies’ founder, Anthony Shriver, served
as emcee of the evening, thanking the highly dedicated co-chairs Raul
Fernandez, Tatiana Gau, Richard Kay, and Ted Leonsis, and begging
the crowd to give them a year off after all of their hard work (any takers
out there?) Senator Tom Harkin was honored for his impressive support
of Best Buddies in his home state of Iowa. Also spotted but camera-shy
were Robert DeNiro and presenter Penelope Ann Miller, who helped
rally higher bids during the live auction. An impressive $1 million was
raised in support of the developmentally challenged.
