Studio Theatre’s Gala Under Glass
Changing the Face of Washington

Glass blowing artists greeted guests in sheer, sparkling fabrics and other glass-inspired attire at Studio Theatre’s annual benefit titled “Gala Under Glass”. Almost $250,000 was raised at the event, which celebrated the theatre’s $12 million expansion on 14th Street, N.W. A scrumptious meal was served by Design Cuisine and served on the stages of the Mead Theatre, Milton Theatre and Acting Conservatory Studio.

Following dinner, guests mingled and danced on the floors of the new building. The theater is expanding into a stage complex with a two-story glass atrium, creating a new central entrance leading into the lobby and box office. At the start of the project last year, appropriately titled “The Changing Face of 14th Street,” Jaylee and Gilbert Mead announced that they would match all gifts donated until June of this year by half (up to $1 million). The Studio Theatre hosts many outreach programs to people in the community, including the Arts Motivating Youth (A.M.Y.) program which makes art accessible to low-income youth and Pay-What-You-Can performances when tickets that are regularly purchased for $25 to $44 can be purchased for pocket change. In addition, the theatre’s hosts events for community groups, regional arts associations and national philanthropic events at no charge.
