Kuwait-America Foundation’s Benefit for Iraqi Refugees
A Tribute to Friendship
Kuwaiti Ambassador Salem Al-Sabah and his wife, Rima, hosted the Kuwait-
American Foundation benefit dinner, “A Tribute to Friendship,” on March 9 for Iraqi
refugees relief. There are 400,000 Iraqi refugees, mainly women and children,
living in exile around the world. The benefit raised over $1 million, which will be
used for the repatriation and resettlement of these refugees. The dinner honored
former Secretary of State Colin Powell and UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador
Angelina Jolie. CNN’s Paula Zahn flew in from New York to emcee the event with
Marvin Hamlisch, who performed with the Children’s Chorus of Washington. The
underwriters of the intimate evening (of 144 guests) were ChevronTexaco and the
Dow Chemical Company. Other corporate sponsors included Occidental, Boeing,
Conoco-Phillips, General Motors, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation and Exxon Mobile.
Among the VIPs attending were the Secretaries of Energy, Transportation and Housing
and Urban Development; Supreme Court Justices Antonin Scalia and Anthony
Kennedy; and Generals Richard Myer and Peter Pace.
