THE EVENT
The Aspen Institute presented its
2006 Bipartisanship Awards to Reps. Steven Israel
(D-NY) and Timothy Johnson (R-IL), co-founders
of the Congressional Center Aisle Caucus. "[Our
constituents] don't wake up thinking about Left and
Right, they wake up thinking about moving forward.
And that's what we're trying to achieve," Israel
remarked.
THE SCENE
The dinner with Aspen
trustees, young political leaders, and Washington
regulars included a panel discussion on the Future
of Political Civility featuring former Speaker of
the House Thomas Foley, former House Minority
Leader Robert Michel, former White House Chief
of Staff Leon Panetta, and former Governor of
New Jersey and EPA Administrator Christine Todd
Whitman.
