Showcasing Washington National Opera’s Domingo-Cafritz Young Artists and Mason Opera Singers
Sunday, April 7 at 4 p.m.
Some of the best young voices in the nation come to our region to perfect their art and craft. The Washington National Opera’s Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program auditions hundreds of postgraduate, emerging professional singers for a coveted few positions every year. These exceptional artists receive coaching, perform with WNO at the Kennedy Center, and participate in the development of new work through the American Opera Institute. Domingo-Cafritz alumni are singing with the major opera houses around the world. Closer to home, Mason’s Opera and Vocal Studies program provides high-caliber academic study for outstanding undergraduate and graduate students from around the country and internationally, regularly producing award-winning singers who go on to prestigious graduate programs and professional careers. “Raising Voices” marks the beginning of an innovative partnership between these two important programs, distinctly different but both dedicated to the support and growth of the young opera singer in America. Join us for a thrilling program of opera, operetta, musical theater arias, ensembles, and scenes that showcase the breathtaking scope and talent of these young artists in the beautiful (and acoustically brilliant) Merchant Hall as they prepare to blossom on the international stage.
$20; tickets to this performance are free to students (up to 2 tickets). Adult companion required for students grades 9 and under. Student ID must be presented.”
