Last Thursday night media coverage of our fair city must have halted for a few minutes as a gaggle of Washington’s media elite came to clink glasses and natter about their upcoming vacations in the lower level of the Hilton Washington’s newly revamped digs.
The reason for celebrating? Condé Nast Traveler’s May issue with our fashionable FLOTUS gracing the cover in a power red dress and a White House background. At the Hilton soirée, Traveler’s chic Editor in Chief, Klara Glowczewska, looking appropriately global-chic in an Asian inspired silk dress, introduced the night’s honoree, senior advisor to the President, Valerie Jarrett. Though Glowczewska fumbled a bit reading her notes, she put them aside and spoke graciously about the world traveler we have on Pensylvania Avenue. Jarrett that is.
Glowczewska reminded us that Jarrett (in a beige, chartreuse, white, and black jacket that looked like it was painted by Piet Mondrian), is quite the citizen of the world, having been born in Shiraz, Iran and living and lived in London before heading to Chicago. Not surprising that Jarrett voiced how at home Washingtonians have made her feel. It’s been said that we are the capital of the world.
