Now is the time to channel your inner Carrie Bradshaw. Prada is holding a writing contest in conjunction with their line of vintage eyeglasses. See what the winner of the short story contest will win. Time to pull out that uber chic Mac (or vintage typewriter).

Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve delivered commentary on Saint Laurent’s bold advertising moves – using rockers and other musicians to showcase their new, edgier line. Hedi Slimane, the creative director behind Yves Saint Laurent’s campaign, took a big gamble and it paid off. Look to this three-page article on just what shock and awe can do.

… and speaking of edgy, I wish I were a senior BFA student at Parsons so I could take John Galliano’s master class.

Makeup more your thing? You’ll want to look into MAC’s makeup artist master class with Val Garland. Famous people from all segments of the fashion industry were tripping over themselves to be there.

In the current world of fashion, tall, anorexic women are praised as the most beautiful women in the world. In the 1930s, that just wasn’t the case. Check out the measurements of some of the most famously beautiful women in Hollywood, including Greta Garbo a curvy yet incredibly sought-after lady.

Something that shouldn’t be sought after? Bikinis for girls, ages 4-8… unless you’re Gwyneth Paltrow. Her ridiculously over-priced site GOOP is selling them for $45 a pop (so this is a steal) and even features little girls in grown-up poses.  Parents are outraged, but the Academy Award-winning actress sees nothing wrong with it.

Florida Wildlife Commission has a growing python problem and Camilla Zarsky is at the helm of fixing it. Introducing “The Python Challenge,” more than 1,500 amateur python hunters approved by the commission are seeking out these predatory reptiles and turning the skins over to Zarsky for her collection. The commission loves this idea so much that they are actively seeking other luxury labels that want to continue this challenge.

… and while we’re on the subject of handbags, Reed Krakoff is finally leaving Coach to independently pursue his incredibly popular line of handbags.

Hermès made quite a splash at Baselworld – almost literally. Check out the pavilion they designed resembling the bow of a ship.

Trends

The new trend in handbags seems to be those that notable British ladies – living or deceased – possess. From the iconic Lady Dior, to the Queen’s purses, we’ve been inspired over the years. However, Launer London never anticipated a 53 percent spike in sales with Margaret Thatcher’s passing.

Need something a bit bigger? Why not these 12 totally chic dufflebags.

Some of us simply can’t stand skinny jeans or cropped pants. The good news: Some designers have managed to create figure-flattering pants for the rest of us. Try any of these 15 wide-leg trousers.

Rarely do I come across a garment so striking that it deserves a mention all by itself. Victoria Beckham’s label has created a tuxedo cape for F/W 2013 and it’s utterly fabulous. See who wore it to the Tiffany’s Blue Book Ball and then view the rest of her incredible collection. And while you’re at it, peruse the rest of the elegant looks from the ball.

On the completely opposite end of the spectrum, what does someone wear to the Met’s Punk Gala? A few celebs have some ideas. What you won’t see there? A giant nude statue of Vivienne Westwood – we can thank Anna Wintour for that.

It’s almost wedding season and “horse race” season and most everyone scrambles at the last minute to find that perfect dress. These top 25 versatile dresses can take you from the day at the races and to dancing the night away at a reception.
