Vibrant live performances and engaging craft activities bring families together to enjoy the arts at VSA arts’ Start with the Arts Family Festival, June 5-6 at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Kids can decorate environmentally friendly canvas bags, learn how to make musical instruments from found objects, like those used in the museum’s current exhibition “Jean Shin: Common Threads,” and go on a creative journey with Anansi the Spider from the classic children’s fable. Bash the Trash, an environmental arts troupe, will perform on Friday. Saturday features performances from The Dancing Wheels Company and Little Theatre of the Deaf at intervals throughout the day. The festival is free and open to the public from 11:30 a.m.-5 p.m. The Smithsonian American Art Museum is located at 8th and F Streets, N.W.
