Sisters Katherine Kallinis and Sophie LaMontagne, watched their reality TV debut along with the an exclusive group of Washingtonians Tuesday night at the Ritz Carlton Georgetown’s Degrees Bar and Lounge. DC Cupcake stars Kallinis and LaMontagne as they run the award winning cupcakery, Georgetown Cupcake. The show premieres Friday night at 10 p.m. on TLC.
According to Kallinis and LaMontagne, DC Cupcake was born when an executive producer visited Georgetown Cupcake and was surprised to see the sisters working in the front, and how much they were a part of the day to day goings on of the cupcakery. He filmed a demo, brought it to TLC, and the rest is history.
In the first episode we learn some sweet facts- like how the cupcakes are all made using Kallinis and LaMontagne’s grandmother’s recipes, how their mother works with them to this day, and cooking tips like how they use apple cider vinegar for Red Velvet cupcakes because it makes for a sweeter cake. DC Cupcake gives viewers an inside look into how the cupcakery is run and how two sisters, who left corporate jobs to start this business, began a cupcake revolution in Washington, D.C.
At the Cupcakes and Champagne reception, guests sipped bubbly and sampled mini cupcakes (everything from Peanut Butter to Chocolate Ganache to Red Velvet) while schmoozing with the stars of the show and watching the first episode on plasma TV’s.
“We’re so proud to be a small business here,” the sisters explained. “We hope it brings more people to the District.”
