Last week on St. Jean’s beach in St. Barth, just a shell’s throw from a Victoria’s Secret photoshoot starring Alessandra Ambrosio and Adriana Lima, DC area fashion designer Cynthia Bapst’s label Union of Angels made a splash of its own.

La Plage, the island’s trendiest beach club, served not only as the Victoria’s Secret shoot impromptu styling salon, but also treated its many guests to a midday fashion show featuring the Union of Angels summer collection. The La Plage clientele, hailing from exotic locales like Paris, Bahrain, and Washington DC, was appreciative and engaged in the oceanview runway display.
One notably chic Parisian guest, described by St. Barth locals-in-the-know as “the best dressed woman on the island, only wears Dior and Chanel – very picky” (and seen chatting the following day with Ms. Lima at La Plage) was so smitten with the showing of the white “Crochet Dress,” a Union of Angels signature piece, that she purchased it immediately as it came off the model.
So well received was the Union of Angels collection that St. Barth rock star restaurateur Thierry De Badereau, owner of La Plage and several chic boutiques on the island including Wild Side in Gustavia, inked a deal with the Union of Angels public relations director to begin carrying the line in his shops.
Said designer Cynthia Bapst, “This is a very welcome success that the clothing is being received so well, because the people visiting and living in St Barth are so stylish. I always felt that Union of Angels is a good fashion fit for St. Barth, and now I’m pleased to have that confirmed in such an immediate way.”
