Last week, ArtJamz, Bloomingdales, and Becky’s Fund teamed up together to deliver an evening of painting, fashion, and philanthropy. Six fashion bloggers were chosen by ArtJamz founder, Michael Clements, paired with a designer dress, and were given the task of creating a painting that correlated with the outfit.

The bloggers consisted of Janice Wallace of Capitol Fashionista, Kelly Collis of City Shop Girl, Holly Thomas of The Washington Post Magazine, Kate Michael of K Street Kate, Elaine Mensah of the Fashion BS podcast, Pamela Sorenson of Pamela’s Punch, and Rachel Cothran of Project Beltway.

The dresses that the bloggers were paired with came from Bloomingdale’s Elements Collection and the designers included Milly, Nanette Lepore, Rebecca Taylor, Tibi, and Leifsdottir. Bloomingdales focused on choosing dresses with prints and hot colors, which are popular themes for this season.

While the artistas painted, Kenya from Bristol Sounds kept the music lively, and guests had the chance to mingle and snack on hors d’eouvres catered by Ridgewells.

Rachel Cothran, one of the bloggers competing in ArtJamz Top Artista, stated that she was overwhelmed with the task at hand. When asked if she thinks there is a big connection between painting and fashion, she said, “Absolutely. Some of the finest designers are all artists. Art and fashion go hand in hand. Designing is an artistic self-expression.”

Cothran came in first place with her abstract painting and Holly Thomas was second place. Cothran’s painting was auctioned off for $200 and Thomas’ for $100. The proceeds were donated to Becky’s Fund.

In addition to the paintings, part of the proceeds from the sales at Bloomingdales went to Becky’s Fund, an organization that promotes awareness, advocacy, activism, and support for women who have been involved in domestic violence.
