With Memorial Day about to begin, so does the official start of summer. In order to kick-off the season with a bang, the Corcoran Gallery of Art and College of Art + Design is starting their Free Summer Saturdays this coming weekend. Performances, gallery tours, workshops and demonstrations are readily available for visitors each Saturday during the summer. The daylong excursions have a set program for each Saturday, as well as touristic features that will vary week to week.

The showcases are to run from this Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend at regular museum hours. The attractions include weekly chalk drawings, sketching live models in the Atrium, a performance from Kid Pan Alley and a view of Chris Martin: Painting Big, among others. From art exhibitions to dance performances, the weekly event promises to be a must-see in the Washington D.C. area this summer. Back by popular demand, Free Summer Saturdays are suitable for all age groups. So corral the kids together or invite your closest buddies to a Saturday full of art and culture (the fact that it’s a free day excursion in the city should be enticing enough).  View the full schedule of events here.

Sidewalk chalk art is just one of the cool activities planned for kids and familiies.
