Friends and family came out to Opera Ultra Lounge to surprise singer Jennifer Hudson for her 30th birthday.

What do you give a lady who has everything, including a national advertising campaign, a new collaboration with all-star producer, David Guetta on his new single “Night Of Your Life,” and who was recently on the cover of Self Magazine? How about a surprise birthday party with three hundred of your closest friends and family at K Street’s (well, actually, I Street’s) newest hot-spot Opera Ultra Lounge. It was a hectic scene in the swanky club as Grammy-winning artist and curvaceous Weight Watchers advocate Jennifer Hudson made the leap into her thirties in style. Guests sipped on glasses of Avion Tequila and Grey Goose vodka, and toasted the singer with flutes of Luxor champagne. Hudson does not drink … plus, there is way too much sugar in that bubbly! While the artist took bites (small bites, of course) of her three-tier purple orchid and strawberry cake, she was serenaded by close friend and R&B singer Raheem Devaughn as well as Hip Hop singer Lil’Mo. She even playfully endured a couple tribute songs sung by female impersonators from the reality show Drag City D.C. Yes, we know, another (potential) D.C. reality show. Yikes. So, why was Miss Hudson in Washington, you ask? Well, she graduated in 1999 from Dunbar High School and still has lots of friends and family in the area … about 300 it seems. She was also in attendance at the Kennedy Center for a celebration honoring the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin and the 25th Anniversary of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz. Happy Birthday JHud. Life starts at 30!
