Think you know a cutting edge hairstyle when you see one? Think again! The recent International Trendvision Awards, hosted by Wella Professionals at Pier 94 in New York City, showcased the newest trends in professional styling. 86 stylists from 47 countries competed for top prize in one of two categories, Young Talent or Color. Local model and 2011 The Young and The Guest List member Nora Sommerkamp was there representing the United States in the color category. Sommerkamp won Gold in the Color Category for the US with a look called Polaris. Her stylist was Shirley Gordon. Her make up was crafted by celebrity artist Derrick Rutledge, who counts Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey as clients.

Over 2,000 hairdressers, guests, and members of the media attended the event to catch the first glimpse of the trends that Wella hopes will influence runways, red carpets, and even street style in the coming year. What can we expect to see in 2012? China’s Deling Wu took home the gold award for Color with his edgy black bob framed with blonde tips. A sleek and short black cut also took home the Gold Award and People’s Choice Award for Young Talent. It looks like the coming year is all about styles that are closely cropped, a little dark, and most of all – avant garde!
