Some throw on spandex and take on a satisfying run to relax, others prefer to kick back and laugh out loud with friends. If you fall into the latter category, why not combine your natural inclination for humor with a charitable cause?

Founded in 2011, Cinderella Cares‘ aims to raise money for the many people living with lung cancer by raising money through the arts. Inspired by a woman named Cinderella Samuels Salmon, who devoted herself to caring for the sick before she herself succumbed to cancer, the organization launched Comedy for a Cure.

Washington’s well-known Riot Act Comedy Theater is hosting the first Comedy for a Cure gala benefiting Holy Cross Hospital and Lung Cancer Alliance. The fundraiser features Mix 106.5’s very own deejay Jojo Girard, with musicians like The Kelly Bell Band, a popular blues band, as well as comedians like Tony Woods, Ian Salmon and Sarah Newell presenting a diverse range of humorous standup.

The Riot Act Comedy Theater, 801 E St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20004. April 26 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 and are available here.
