As a resident of Washington, D.C. for over 25 years, I have had the pleasure of witnessing the continual evolution and blossoming of our nation’s capital. Over this time I have also witnessed individuals embark on some of the most paradigm shifting journeys that American business and culture have seen. One such young man possessed a drive and commitment to success that set him apart, even from the most ambitious and talented in the city.

As a student at Howard University, Sean Combs began to exhibit the smarts, heart, and boldness to claim exactly what he wanted in his professional life. His initial foray into the music business became a driving force in the development and popularity of an entire music culture. This success provided him the leverage to have a Midas touch when it came to lifestyle brands and initiatives across fashion, film, television, hospitality, nightlife, and fragrance. Recognizing his exceptional track record, the largest distributor of spirits in the world, Diageo, sought his endorsement and promotion of a then-small vodka brand that at the time was shipping an estimated 120,000 cases per year. As a result of Sean Combs’ involvement, Ciroc now ships over 2 million cases per year, making it the second most popular vodka in the world.

He recently commandeered the POV lounge at the W Hotel to thank all of us in the DMV region that played a role in his initial success and have supported his endeavors since. As one of the wealthiest individuals in the United States, Mr. Combs’ accomplishments are legendary, yet I can still sense the same drive and passion that set him apart from the rest when he was a student at Howard 24 years ago. Power Source salutes Sean Combs for excelling at the business of “show business.”
