Theatre aficionados from throughout the District stepped out recently to demonstrate their support for the Washington art scene at the 2010 Helen Hayes Star Gala. Held at the Four Seasons, the Gala has long been raising awareness about and bolstering attendance for DC theatre.

Though it maintained its central purpose, this year’s gala added pizazz.

A live auction, hosted by Sebastian Clarke of Doyle New York and Antiques Roadshow, was one of the night’s most appealing additions. Who wouldn’t love the chance to bid on a vacation to India and support the arts simultaneously? Neighborhood Theatre Raffles, which offered guests the chance to win tickets to shows in their neighborhood, were another exciting addition to the night.

The mix of performers and local VIPs made the night an event that sparkled- the evening was hosted by Tyne Daly of Judging Amy fame, and singer Will Gartshore took the mic. Susan and Dixon Butler, as well as Pete Miller and Sara Cormeny, were also in attendance, and were honored with  the 2010 Helen Star for their dedication to, and support of, an array of Washington area theatres.
