WNO’s Opera Ball 2011

Washington’s social and philanthropic event, the Washington National Opera’s Opera Ball, is to be held for the first time at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China.

Washington National Opera‘s Opera Ball will be hosted for the first time by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, under the patronage of Ambassador Zhang Yesui and Madame Chen Naiqing. The Opera Ball will be chaired by Susan E. Lehrman, the Washington philanthropist who has also chaired the Opera Ball at France (2008), Germany (2009) and Russia (2010). Celebrating the rich cultural heritage of China, the highly anticipated event begins with intimate dinners hosted by embassies throughout the city, followed by entertainment, dancing and desserts at the Chinese chancery. The Opera Ball is WNO’s most significant annual fundraiser, with 100% of the proceeds supporting the company’s award-winning artistic, educational and outreach programs.

Dress is black-tie. Further event details will be available in February 2011. The ball will be held Saturday, May 7, 2011. Pre-Ball Embassy dinners begin at 7:00 p.m. and the Ball begins at 9:30 p.m.

Pre-event dinners will take place at embassies throughout the city. Following embassy dinners, all dinner guests will convene at the new chancery of Chinese Embassy, 3505 International Place, NW, Washington D.C., for dancing, entertainment and dessert.
