Just in time for the MLK weekend stars descend upon the District to honor African-American icons of our time.

Hosted at the historic Warren Theatre, the fourth consecutive year of the BET Honors recognized the important work of everyone from innovators of the arts to those making strides in improving the American education system.
The BET event was simply spectacular with a sense of decadent luxury filling the air. Gabrielle Union, Jamie Foxx, Ne-yo, Iman, Keyshia Cole, Yolanda Adams and Al Sharpton are only a few of the big names that graced the red carpet Saturday night. Washington D.C.’s powerful political players also came out to support and honor these modern day heroes – Eric Holder, Hill Harper and iconic model and business woman B. Smith posed for pictures and even stopped to answer a few of my questions.
Gabrielle Union, host of the honors for the third year in a row, stood out in a bold, teal dress. Yolanda Adams, a recognized leader in gospel music, was one of the many breakthrough performances of the night.
Among those being honored: Jamie Foxx for his work in entertainment, Dr. Lonnie Bunch for his work in education, Iman for her extensive philanthropy and service, and Cicely Tyson for her contributions to the theatrical arts.
