Jason Wu presents local preview to his Nordstrom Fall collection as fans, fashionistas, and Vanity Fair swoons.

Jason Wu swooped into the District for a weekend of exclusive parties giving his loyal local followers a chance to mingle with him. Nordstrom and Vanity Fair Special Correspondent Amy Fines Collins co-hosted the most exclusive event during his stay – a reception at Long View Gallery that showcased Wu‘s Fall 2011 collection. The tightly-guarded guest list (handled by Nordstrom as well as Vanity Fair‘s own event-maestro Terrence Charles) brought an upscale group of fashion lovers and media to the urban chic gallery in Shaw District to view models who changed into different Wu creations every 15 minutes or so in a casual affair that chose platforms over the runway for showcasing the looks. Trends include lace, solids and feminine glamour. Who was best dressed? Amy Fine Collins, of course, wearing a long black laced-back dress from the collection.
Safe to say the event was a hit – how can you go wrong with retail therapy delivered with the designer on location? We think its safe to say that Wu wooed over D.C. and the fashionable crowd. And proving once again what an important retail market D.C. is, we hear that one Washingtonian bought 46 pieces from the collection – essentially the entire collection. So, does this make Mr. Wu the house designer for all of Washington’s galas and charity balls? Wu broke into the international fashion arena after styling Michelle Obama for the 2009 Inaugural Ball. The dress that won over Mrs. Obama, gained Mr. Wu a place in fashion’s top leading designers, as well as his design immortalized in the Smithsonian American History museum.
