Taking on Cannes Film Festival Fashion, High-Fashion Collaborations and Prada Going Public?

Summer months and the vacations that accompany them require a wardrobe, just like any other season.  And, with summer vacations come relaxed schedules, something the designers have taken note of.  Over the next few months, expect these designers to continue roll out their 2012 resort wear lines.  This week: Oscar De La Renta – a cubist-inspired collection and a twist: paper hats.

Cannes Film Festival’s Endless Parade of Fashion

Meanwhile, on the other side of the Atlantic, the Cannes Film Festival was in full swing last week.  It’s unclear what takes more of the leading role: the films or the fashion. See the highlights of some of the best of couture here.

Cannes Film Festival fashion isn’t only about showing off the latest in couture.  All eyes are also on trendsetters and one strong one has emerged – sheer/lingerie-inspired looks.  This is in addition to a staple trend for this season: black and white.

Designer News

Designer collaborations are all the rage these days and Prabal Gurung is no exception.  Get a first look at his collection for J. Crew.

… and collaborations are not exclusive to just clothing.  Get a first look at the world’s first high jewelry shoe, from Giuseppe Zanotti and Chopard.

Diffusions lines are also a designer must-have and Derek Lam is the newcomer to this segment of the industry.  See whom his diffusion line, 10 Crosby, is named for.

We have also seen an uptick in designer lines for children but what about for those furry, four-legged companions?  Emporio Armani has taken on this venture with its first dog suit, which will be sold in stores this fall.

Photographer Koto Bolofo got unlimited access to the secretive workshops of Hermès for his newly released book series, La Maison.  The series is comprised of eleven volumes, each exploring a different facet of the brand’s history, from its ready-to-wear collections to its iconic Kelly bag.  See the slideshow here.

As Oprah’s show comes to a close, she is taking on bigger and more fashionable guests.  Watch Oprah’s tour of Ralph Lauren’s Double RL Ranch.

Each year, donors have purchased tickets to shop a sale of new and vintage designer merchandise, with proceeds benefiting the design of costumes for the New York City Opera.  This year the likes of Carolina Herrera, Narciso Rodriguez, Cristian Soriano and others sketch their fantasy opera costumes for their favorite opera characters.  See some of the sketches here.

It’s official – Prada is going public! It’s seeking to raise $1 billion, to list on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

…and speaking of financial business transactions, Kim Kardashian’s shoe company ShoeDazzle.com is nothing to scoff at, as it just raised another $40 million in capital.

Who says fashion has to be wearable?  The Swedish vodka brand, Kanon Vodka, has penetrated its way into the fashionably hip scene, causing quite a stir.  Click here to read more on their marketing strategy.
