NCAA-inspired competition pits local actors against one another in a head-to-head “theatre tournament” for over $1,000 in cash and prizes.

March isn’t just for sports fans anymore. DC actor/producer/athlete Edward Daniels is back with his second-annual “Monologue Madness” showdown, a theatrical competition that takes the NCAA’s March Madness Basketball Tournament’s bracketing to dramatic new heights. “We’ve got some amazing theatre talent nestled here in DC that are often overshadowed by that government thing downtown,” said Daniels.
His artsy-meets-fanboy tournament features both well-known and un-known local actors going head-to-head armed with their best audition monologues, all in the hopes of winning the over ,000 in cash and prizes.
Last year’s sold-out competition saw over 80 actors attending the “Selection Sunday Open Call” audition, in which two judges determined who would move on to compete in the bracketed Top 64 during “Championship Sunday.” Split into three rounds (comedy, drama, and classical monologues), the highest scoring actors on Championship Sunday advance until only one is left standing as the new Monologue Madness Champion.
Actor registration for interested participants has already begun, while this year’s Selection Sunday Open Call Audition will be held at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel in Arlington, VA, from 9am-5pm March 11.
The live Championship Sunday Competition is set for April 1st from 7pm-9pm in a location TBD. Tickets are and go on sale Feb.
