Wax museum launches new King of Pop traveling exhibit.

In a career as studded with milestones as Michael Jackson‘s, how can you pick just one to celebrate? Luckily for local fans, Madame Tussauds was able to narrow down the list. Forty years ago, the former Jackson 5 frontman embarked on his first solo venture with the album Got To Be There. In recognition of this achievement, as well as its new traveling exhibit, “The Michael Jackson Experience,” The Presidents Gallery at Madame Tussauds hosted its own MJ-themed celebration January 22nd. Twenty young dancers from Alexandria’s Strictly Rhythm Dance Center dressed up in costumes inspired by the King of Pop’s most iconic looks and performed to a medley of his hits. They then led a procession to the new exhibit’s chart-topper: a two-foot-tall wax replica of Michael Jackson’s infamous spangled glove.
The rest of “The Michael Jackson Experience,” now open to the public, features three MJ figures from different stages in his career. These replicas include Michael during the Jackson 5 years, the “Bad” era, and his “This is it” phase. As with all of Tussauds’ wax replicas, the resemblance is striking – it’s like looking at “the man in the mirror.” In addition to taking in the Tussaud’s display, visitors can create their own souvenir wax glove by stopping by the exhibit’s “Wax Workshop.”
The exhibit will be on display at Madame Tussauds through March 13th, and is included in the regular general admission ticket price. For tickets and more information, click here.
