ReadySetDC hosted its fifth event, the Fashion District, to promote the creative economy at the Powerhouse last Thursday, April 12th. This fashion show was different than any other, as it was created to attain a more personal approach between the customer and the artist.
Attendees were able to touch, feel and purchase the clothes on display as well as talk to designers in charge. The designers included Hugh & Crye, Kelly Tang, Artaya, Ginger Root Design, Kolton J, Aliceanna and Accoutre, among others. However, the show wasn’t only for designers but also for up-and-coming companies, such as Erin Yogasundram’s Shopjeen and Its Vintage Darling, among others.
The Powerhouse, a three-level, 7,500-square-foot maze of a warehouse along the C&O Canal, right over the footbridge from Dean & Deluca, boomed with fashion and music. DJ vANNIEty Kills and DJ Inda Nile were in charge of the musical ambiance.
Stylish attendees nibbled on equally stylish complimentary fare from Café Saint Ex, The Queen Vic, Vinoteca, Aaron Silverman and Matchbox. Early bird ticket holders (150 of them) were also treated to a special “Fashion District Cocktail.”
