The Lab School of Washington's Outstanding Achiever Awards Gala | Beating the Odds The 15th annual awards ceremony and gala dinner-dance brought many distinguished area residents to theWashington Hilton to honor outstanding individuals in the worlds of science, medicine, sports, art,government, and entertainment, who have overcome learning disabilities. The awards ceremony was hosted byMark Russell, who presented the “Outstanding Learning-Disabled Achiever’s Award” to honorees BillyBlanks, World Martial Arts Champion and famous Tae-Bo guru, football coaching legend Don Coryell, andDemocratic Congressman Sam Gejdenson, each of whom successfully conquered dyslexia after being diagnosedduring adulthood. In addition to the awards presentation, the black-tie event included an elegant dinnerand dancing. The Lab School has been educating children and adults with learning disabilities for thepast 33 years. Chairs: Senator and Mrs. Edward M.
