On February 15th, the arts sciences came together at the National Academy of Sciences with theopening of the exhibit, “The Art of Neuroscience: Image and Understanding 1518-2000”, and a lecture“Brain Messengers” which kicked off a new colloquium series. Solomon Snyder, Johns HopkinsUniversity professor of neuroscience, pharmacology, and psychiatry, delivered the keynote lecture.The evening, which was made possible by a $5.6 million grant from Jillian Sackler, widow of prominentneuroscientist and art collector, Dr. Arthur M. Sackler, celebrated new developments in neuroscienceand the images that have evolved over the centuries in conjunction with advancements in ourunderstanding of the brain and central nervous system.
