Ralph Fiennes was honored for his work in classical theatre bythe Shakespeare Theatre at a black-tie gala held at the Libraryof Congress on March 3rd. The celebration featured anElizabethan-style dinner and included the presentation of abelated Millennium Recognition Award to actor RichardThomas, who played the title role in “Richard II” at thetheatre. The Will Award is presented annually to persons whohave made a significant contribution to classical theatre inAmerica. Shakespeare Theatre’s artistic director, MichaelKahn, hopes that Fiennes’ visit will entice him to return toperform in one of the theatre’s upcoming productions.Proceeds from the gala will benefit the theatre’s outreach andeducation programs.
