The Shakespeare Theatre hosted “The Bardand the Ballot: Politics According toShakespeare”, in late November. An eveningof humorous and poignant passages takenfrom the work of William Shakespeare relatingto contemporary American politics andthe 2000 election, the program featurednotable Washingtonians dressed in costume.Entering from either side of the theatre -- onone side holding placards with donkeys andon the other placards with elephants – theyhurled insults at the audience as they walkedtowards the stage to begin the performance.The program was followed by a champagneand dessert reception in the theatre lobby.
