Literary Washington gathered at the Cleveland Park home of Susan Shreve and Timothy Seldeson March 29th for a buffet supper given by the directors of the PEN/Faulkner Foundation honoringauthors James D. Houston and Maxine Hong Kinston. Mr. Houston is the author ofseven novels and several nonfiction works in which he has explored the history and culturesof the western U.S. and the Asia/Pacific region. His just-published novel, “Snow MountainPassage,” is a retelling of the Donner Party saga of westward migration. Ms. Kingston is well-knownfor her two memoirs, “The Woman Warrior” and “China Men,” in which shedescribes what it is like to live within two cultures and belong to neither. Her latest book isentitled “The Fifth Book of Peace.”
