The joint cause forcelebration was the premiere of the Tony-winning play“Copenhagen,” by Michael Frayn, and a symposium aboutphysicists Niels Bohr and Werner Heisenberg held at theSmithsonian Institution. The play is a reenactment of the 1941meeting in German-occupied Denmark when physicistsWerner Heisenberg and Niels Bohr grappled with the scienceand morality of developing the atomic bomb.
