| Saluting Celebrity Achievements Lunch, and then a lavish dinner at the StateDepartment, kicked off the 25th annual Kennedy CenterHonors Weekend on Saturday, December 7. A packedSunday brunch hosted by producer George Stevens Jr.and his wife Liz at the Westin Fairfax Hotel drew oldand new supporters of the Kennedy Center, Democraticcommittee chair Terry McAuliffe, Sen. Patrick Leahy,Vernon Jordan, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, and scores ofcelebrities. Then it was on to the White House wherePresident and Mrs. Bush hosted a quick reception.The culminating event of the weekend, Sunday evening'sgala at the Kennedy Center, began with a program ofsalutes followed by a gala dinner. This year's honoreeswho were lauded and applauded for artistic achievement:screen stars James Earl Jones and Elizabeth Taylor,singer-songwriter Paul Simon, dancer-actress ChitaRivera, and conductor James Levine.
