| Black and White All Over "Black and White" was the theme of the 45th annualNational Symphony Ball at the National BuildingMuseum, chaired by Mandy and Mary Ourisman.This year, guests were given the option of wearingtails or tuxes and more than a few of the 900 guestsopted to go with traditional white-tie attire. Decorwas directed by New York designer David Tutera.White gardenias, calla, and Casablanca lilies wereeverywhere. Music director Leonard Slatkin conductedthe entire orchestra in Strauss Waltzes and guest artistMarvin Hamlisch played a medley of Cole Portertunes on the grand piano. Guests who knew the waltzwere invited to dance and many did, including tosome less familiar ones. The event raised more than$1 million for orchestra activities. Some of the stellarguests attending were White House adviser KarlRove, Bitsey Folger, Redskins owner Dan Snyder, SanFrancisco real estate mogul and Democratic fundraiserWalter Shorenstein with Jennifer Grossman,Britty Cudlip and John Damgard, Lucky Roosevelt,Roger and Vicki Sant, Houston socialite LynnWyatt, Samia and Huda Farouki, Philip and NinaPillsbury, and the ambassadors of Argentina, Belgium,Singapore, Morocco, India and Israel.
