Mosaic Gala Benefit
Arabian Nights
Nearly 500 benefactors and patrons attended the 2nd annual Mosaic Gala Benefit. The Gala included the
American debut of the Cairo Opera Ballet with a one-night-only performance of Egyptian Night-a two-hour
program from the extensive repertory that included the ballets Osiris, Le Corsaire (Act III), and
Folkloric Dances. Following the performance, guests adjourned to the atrium to enjoy a
fabulous dinner of Arabian cuisine. The Mosaic Foundation is a charitable organization sponsored by the
spouses of the Arab Ambassadors to the United States, which raises funds for American institutions
benefiting women and children. Proceeds from this year's event were donated to the National Race for the
Cure-making the Mosaic Foundation the second largest donor to the 1999 Race. With the Foundation's
donation of $320,000, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, the parent organization of the Race
for the Cure series, in turn established an international outreach breast-cancer education program for
Arab countries.
