Director and actor George Clooney , who was in town for the HBO premiere of "K Street" last month, was seen all over town, painting it red. He was at the Romare Bearden Foundation 's gala at the Ritz-Carlton downtown, playing basketball at SportsClub LA , and dining out at restaurants like Dish (ordering Chef Ron Redaa's meatloaf, described on the menu as Mom's recipe with mushroom sauce), and Café Milano , where he dined with a friend for four hours on the outdoor patio one Saturday night. Sources say that the waiters at Milano were still telling people at Sunday lunch how Clooney wowed the place the night before with his unexpected appearance. Also spotted recently at Milano were Women's World Cup soccer great Mia Hamm and Boston Red Socks slugger Normar Garciaparra .

Synetic Theater is kicking off its inaugural season as an independent company on October 10 with "Hamlet…The Rest is Silence." The production won three 2003 Helen Hayes Awards for excellence in Washington area theater, including "Best Resident Play," "Best Choreography," and "Best Direction." The company's interpretation is enacted without dialogue through the fusion of dance, music, and mime. Other plays on this season's schedule are "The Crackpots" and "Master and Margarita."
