After the opening night performance of the Strauss operetta "Die Fledermaus," over 400 guests, including Justices Stephen Breyer, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Anthony Kennedy (all of whom appeared in the performance in celebrity cameos), gathered at the OAS for a gala. Other guests included the First Lady of Austria, Margot Klestil-Loeffler (in a stunning purple gown); D.C. Mayor Anthony Williams and his wife Diane; Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz; new British ambassador Sir David Manning and his wife Lady Manning; French Ambassador Jean-David Levitte; Russian Ambassador Yuriy Ushakov; and the ambassadors of Brazil, Spain, Italy, Denmark, Finland, Austria, and the Netherlands. Opera chairman Betty Casey generously underwrote the production and the gala.
