19th Annual Lombardi Gala

Over 1400 guests donned tuxedos and tiaras at the 18th Annual Lombardi Gala on November 1 at the The Washington Hilton and Towers. The evening began with a cocktail reception and silent auction to benefit the Lombardi Cancer Center, named for legendary Green Bay Packers and Washington Redskins coach Vincent T. Lombardi, who was treated for cancer in 1970 at the Georgetown University Hospital. Since 1970, the Lombardi Cancer Center has grown from a small clinic to one of only 39 comprehensive cancer centers in the country, and the only one in the D.C. area.

The gala was an opportunity to award PGA Champions Tour Player Jim Colbert with the Lombardi Symbol of Courage; Carolyn Deaver of “Look Good…Feel Better”, a public service program for women with cancer with the Lombardi Symbol of Caring; and Maggie Wimsatt with the Margaret L. Hodges Leadership Award. The Lombardi Symbol of Courage honors a sportsperson who has faced cancer and possesses the inspirational qualities of Coach Lombardi. The Lombardi Symbol of Caring is given to individuals for their considerable efforts to encourage cancer research and awareness, and the Margaret L. Hodges Leadership Award recognizes individuals who have donated impressive amounts of time, energy and financial contributions to the cause.

This year's gala raised over $1.1 million to support cancer research, community education, and outreach.
