Farwell Party at the Brazilian Embassy
Washington Bids Goodbye to Rubens and Maria Ignez Barbosa

After four years representing Brazil in Washington , the ambassador of Brazil Rubens Barbosa and his wife Maria Ignez are returning home. Over 30 bon voyage parties were thrown in the couple's honor, and still Washington 's social set gathered at the Brazilian Embassy for just one more.

Ambassador Barbosa previously served as ambassador to the Court of St. James in London and as Brazilian undersecretary general of foreign relations for trade. Maria Ignez was a journalist and interior decorator. The outgoing diplomat is leaving to open his own trade consulting firm for Brazilian manufacturers and exporters. Replacing the Barbosas is Roberto Abdenur, former ambassador to Berlin , and his wife, Maria Isabel Abdenur.
