Cathedral Choral Society Gala
Angelic Chorus
Over 350 guests attended the Cathedral Choral Society’s annual gala on March
27 at the Four Seasons Hotel honoring Dorothy and William McSweeny for
their contributions to the arts. Dorothy McSweeny chairs the D.C. Commission
on the Arts and is also a trustee of the Kennedy Center, the National Symphony
Orchestra and The Washington Ballet.
Her husband, William McSweeny, is
a trustee of the Fine Arts Committee of the State Department, the Shakespeare
Theatre and Arts for the Aging.
Mayor Anthony Williams, Cathedral Choral Society Board President Roberta
Duffy and music director J. Reilly Lewis gave a touching tribute to the couple,
followed by an auction of enticing items. The evening concluded with a
rousing chorus of “Happy Birthday” to Mr. McSweeney, who celebrated his
75th birthday that day, and the arrival of a tasty birthday cake. Proceeds from
the gala benefit the Cathedral Choral Society’s educational activities
