CARE Anniversary Celebration
Diplomacy and Humanity
CARE’s 58th annual anniversary celebration was held on May 7. Many
embassies sponsored private pre-ball dinners, including: embassies of
Hungary,
Argentina, Bolivia, Korea, Jordan, Austria, Croatia. Denmark, Dominican
Republic, Kuwait, Israel, Finland, France, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Pakistan,
Nicaragua, Romania, Singapore, Belgium, Morocco, Myanmar and the Taipei
Economic and Cultural Representative’s Office. After dinner, guests
headed to
the Organization of American States for dancing and dessert.
CARE, one of the world’s largest humanitarian organizations, works
in poor
communities in over 70 developing countries that lack the resources to
overcome poverty. Last year, the organization spent more than $447 million
on over 770 poverty-fighting projects around the world. This year’s
anniversary
celebration raised $430,000. Impressively, 93% of money raised in their
budget goes directly to programs and non-administrative costs.
