A Tribute to Alexander Pushkin Guests were captivated by the poetry of Alexander Pushkin at a ceremony honoring the works of the late Russian poet at the residence of Russian Ambassador Yuri V. Ushakov and his wife, Svetlana, on April 28. Pushkin is arguably the most celebrated Russian poet of all time and is known both for his creativity and his liberal political writing. Russian poet Yevgeny Yevtushenko (celebrated in his own right) read poems
of Pushkin, and the critically acclaimed Domingo-Cafritz Young Artists
of
the Washington National Opera sang the words of Pushkin to the music
of
Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky and Rimsky-Korsakov. Guests included Kenneth
Pushkin, descendent of Alexander Pushkin and founder of the Pushkin Legacy,
a
US-based non-profit organization to preserve the poet’s legacy
in Russia.
