Refugees International’s
25th Anniversary
Honoring Peacekeepers
Sam Waterston, of NBC’s “Law and Order,” was master
of ceremonies at the
star-studded Refugees International 25th anniversary dinner held at chairman
James V. Kimsey’s sprawling McLean home overlooking the Potomac
on May
4. The independent organization celebrated 25 years of lifesaving advocacy
by honoring U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan and his wife, Nane, with
the
McCall-Pierpaoli Award. The award recognizes the U.N.’s role in
protecting
refugees, deploying peacekeepers, fighting disease, hunger and poverty
and
helping to mend war-torn countries. Refugees International works to protect
refugees and internally displaced people around the globe. The independent
organization works without government or UN funding.
Mariella Trager and Isabel Ernst chaired the sold-out event, which netted
over
$500,000, thanks to the generous support of the Constance Millstein
CJM Foundation, the Hassenfeld Family Foundation/Hasbro Inc., ChevronTexaco,
the Coca Cola Company, the Boeing Company and many other corporate
sponsors.
