Hôpital Albert Schweitzer (HAS) Benefit Friends gathered at the home of Conrad Cafritz on June 18 for a fundraising soirée, dance and art sale benefiting Haiti’s Hôpital Albert Schweitzer (HAS). Guests dined on Haitian cuisine by Chez Yon Yon and sipped rum drinks while perusing the display of Haitian art. The June heat made for some sticky guests, who got even stickier as they let loose on the dance floor to the music of the beautiful and talented Emeline Michel, “Reigning Queen of Haitian Song,” and her band. Founded by Dr. W. Larimer Mellon, Jr. and Gwen Grant Mellon, HAS is a 200-bed hospital in Haiti’s rural central Aribonite Valley that also provides medical services, disease prevention programs and economic development.
