The Hope Gala King Abdullah of Jordan was the keynote speaker at the Hope Gala at the Andrew Mellon Auditorium on June 14. Chaired by Luma Kuwar, Samia Farouki and Richard Shadyac, the event successfully netted over $600,000 for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and it’s Jordanian counterpart, the King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC), named after King Abdullah’s late father, King Hussein Bin Talal. Sotheby’s Jamie Niven garnered $27,000 for King Abdullah’s Harley-Davidson, auctioned off to AOL’s Steve Case. Other royal guests in the well-dressed crowd included Jordanian Princesses Talal, Mired and Firyal. St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital partnered with the KHCC, the only cancer center in the Middle East, through an international outreach program that allows the two hospitals to share research and treatment protocols. Both hospitals are dedicated to finding cures to cancer and other catastrophic diseases and to providing excellent patient care.
