The Madison vs. The Carlyle Polo Tournament
Replacing the Divots
The Madison Hotel celebrated the first anniversary of its re-opening in
September of 2003 with a champagne and caviar reception and polo
tournament on the National Mall on September 12. The Madison Hotel
Polo Team, led by captain Dave Pollin and polo pro Charles Muldoon
faced-off against the Carlyle Hotel Polo Team, led by former manager of the
Ritz Carlton Hotel and current general manager of The Carlyle Hotel in New
York and team captain, James McBride. The Carlyle team put up a valiant
effort, but the Madison team emerged victorious.
Richard Eidman and Mark Phillips of Porsche of Arlington sponsored the “Best Playing Pony Award” and the “Most Valuable Player Award,” which
was awarded to McBride. They also presented a check in the amount of
$5,000 to Many Hats Institute, a non-profit that supports various charities to
improve the quality of life for youth worldwide.
