27th Annual Kennedy Center Honors Weekend
Honoring Artistic Excellence
Hollywood met Washington once again at this year’s Kennedy Center
Honors on December 5. Sir Elton John, Warren Beatty, Joan Sutherland
and John Williams were honored for their lifetime contributions to the
performing arts along with Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee, one of only three
married couples ever saluted together at the Honors. Guests roared at Jack
Nicholson’s sarcastic and witty salute to his good friend Beatty, and Kid
Rock, Billy Joel and Robert Downey, Jr. performed some of John’s greatest hits
in honor of the British pop icon.
The brunch, hosted again by George and Liz Stevens this year, at the
elegant Café Mozu at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, was an opportunity
for the honorees and their friends and families to mingle with politicians,
journalists and other celebs before they headed off to the White House and
the Kennedy Center later that day.
